Yesterday after work, we had to say goodbye to our dear and sweet Miss Betty.
She graced us with her presence for 16 years.
I have one regret; I was too chicken to go into the exam room while she slipped away, and the thought that she had to look at a stranger as the last face she saw, is breaking my heart. I had planned on it, and it was a last minute decision not to, I think I was afraid of letting her go.
I miss her more than I would have ever imagined.
oh mel, i am so sorry for your loss. but don't have regrets- you had a great 16 years with her and that is what mattered to her.
ReplyDeleteMel~I am soooo sorry for your loss. It is sooo hard! Been through it a few times and it's just awful. We are still so sad over our lab who passed away 2 years ago this week. I'm so glad you had 16 wonderful years together! She is at the rainbow bridge playing and waiting for you! : ) Until you meet again!

ReplyDeleteYou know don't second guess yourself I was in the room with our dog Pippi and it was hard, so either way nothing makes it better. Sorry for your loss she was a pretty kitty. Hugs, Diane

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read that. As a fellow pet owner I know exactly how you feel. Please don't feel guilty about not being in the exam room; I have never been able to be with my cats as they've slipped away, always felt too sad and guilty. Pets become one of the family, don't they?

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear. I've only had one pet that I've had to have euthanized, and it was the hardest thing ever. Being in there doesn't make it any easier. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. We had to put our first pet down several years ago after an injury and like you I chose not to be in the room. When our fat orange tabby was dying a couple of years ago I couldn't not be in the room. If it's any consolation to you the process is quick and painless. I could see the relief in our Miles's eyes as he fell asleep. I'm sure your baby girl went peacefully knowing that she had been loved.

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear of your pets passing. We lost ours a few years ago and it was so hard. Don't fret too much about not being in the exam room our vet did not allow us to see the face as Stormy passed as he said it would be harder to get over. Sending you hugs from Missouri!
ReplyDeleteIt is without a doubt the most heart wrenching feeling in the world. I recently lost my 15 year old Rudy (dog). I miss his howling at the sirens everytime one goes by. God Bless You in your time of loss.

ReplyDeleteSorry about your kitty! She knows you loved her - no guilty feelings needed! We had to put our Lab down last fall so I understand how sad you are.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of your loss. Our feline friends certainly take up a large place in our hearts. Maybe make a post all about Miss Betty with pictures and funny stories or perhaps a scrapebook. I did not stay in the room with my cat when I had to put him to sleep two summers ago. My vet advised me not to actually. Sending hugs your way.

ReplyDeleteOh Mel, my heart goes out to you and your family. It's the loss and grief of losing Miss Betty that is causing you to wonder whether you did the right thing. Please don't feel any guilt or regret - we do what we think is best at the time, but unfortunately then after the moment has passed we begin to question our decisions and beat ourselves up for putting our own feelings first. Try to remember her as she was in life and enjoy her memory.

Oh Mel, you poor thing! I'm so sorry for your loss. My mom couldn't go with her dog either when my parents had to put her down. It's a personal decision and now you can remember her when she was young and frisky. I cried every day for a month when we had to put down our Roscoe. It has been a month and a half now and time is a blessing. I'm crying less and we got a new dog this week. Hugs and prayers to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I know what you're feeling right now, because I couldn't go in when I had to put down my dog a few years ago. I don't know if I could have done it. I think animals definitely pick up on our stress and our emotions. I didn't want my dog to pick up on mine and be anxious at the end. So sorry.
