Nested Herb Crates DIY

This is not the first time I made a set of these crates, but the previous ones were all the same size and there were only three.  This time I sourced out a set of four nested boxes and made a new set.

Thank you to Claire at A Little Something in the Meantime, she told me about these boxes that can be found at Jysk, a Canadian store similar to Ikea. They are fairly inexpensive and very lightweight.

I stained them with Minwax’s special walnut, a little haphazardly as I didn’t want them to look too uniform.

I cut out black vinyl on my cricut and applied that rather than painting them in.  As before, I don’t have a way to hang them but I’m working on an idea ;)

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

  1. Holy Cow Mel! Those are amazing! They look especially nice as a set. Did you make up the virtue for each one? Or did you look those up somewhere? And is there something significant about the Scarborough Seed Company? I really love those boxes, they have so much character. I'm sure they'll look really nice wherever you put them. And thanks for the source!

  2. Okay, wait, back up. I should have read your original knockoff post first! I see that the virtues and seed company name were part of the original knockoff. Got it! Great job!

  4. These look fabulous, Mel! I was so surprised to see my blog mentioned (I've kind of fallen off the face of the blogging planet for over a month - teaching full time again) while I was reading your post :) Great idea for using the Jysk boxes! I've always loved TLC's original boxes, and now thanks to you I have the means to make my own at my fingertips!

I love that they have an Ontario reference, even if it's just a coincidence!

  5. Very cute! I really like the stain on them and you did a great job on the graphics. I may have to hit Ikea and see if they have something similar.

    Have a great day!
