Making a box cushion

I would like to preface this post with a request; Don’t ever allow me to attempt this again!  I followed the instructions, but I am not so good at following them. If I think I can make it easier, I will. That was my first mistake. I started this project at 10:30 this morning, and didn’t finish until 5 PM!!!!!  I can sew ok, it’s measuring that gets me, every single time.

I used what I had around the house, digging through my fabric stash. I knew that I wanted something neutral, something without a pattern, so I chose black with white piping.  I made the piping using the instructions from Sew Mama Sew, and as crazy as it looks, it works.
I was supposed to add piping to the bottom piece too, but I said fagedaboutit after 6 hours of sewing. Other people make it look so darn easy.
I still have to paint out the storage bench in white, and that will have to do to make it look like the bottom of the cushion has piping Smile

forgive the crappy photos, I’m too tired to haul out my other camera Smile

  1. Awww I've had so many projects like that, figure it'll take a couple of hours tops and two days later... ahhhhhhh!!

I zapped myself not once, not twice but three times trying to connect the GFCI outlet in my new bathroom. Even blew out the breaker once... and I said to myself - don't ever try this again!!! lol Lights & switches are easy, but those outlets are a pita!!!

    Have a happy week!

Hmmm not enough exclamation points !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  5. It looks great! Every time I do a sewing project it takes me 3-4 months to talk myself into another one. It's always harder than it looks!

  6. Hmm, the cushion might have taken longer than you thought, but it looks GREAT! The black fabric and white piping are the perfect foil to your table cloth and chair covers. Love it!

  7. i found the same tutorial & have had it on my Will Do list for over a year but not the guts to try it. each time i read it, it just seems harder than i think. mostly glad to hear that you struggle with measuring too. i can do some basic sewing but i will never understand how people get the measuring down or how they get the fabric cut so well. maybe i will get the courage one day to do just one pillow since you did do a whole bench!
