Cutlery chest becomes handy storage

I don’t know about you, but I get tired of picking up remotes and finding a place for them. I wanted some functional storage for them that also looked good.

I found this cutlery chest and knew that it would be ideal. At $3.99, if it didn’t work out, it was no great loss.

I sprayed it white after giving it a good sanding, but the stain bled through. Back to HD for some kilz primer and it did the trick.

I wasn’t sure what to put on it, but I for sure did not want it to be plain white. I pulled out my stencil that I created for my storage cube ottoman and cushion cover, and used that.

I then applied some stain and quickly wiped it off as I only wanted a hint of stain.

Now I have a place for remotes, candle lighter, coasters and what ever else I want to be put away when not in use.

I am having trouble lining the interior. I hate fussing with fiddly bits :)

  1. Great idea - hopefully the remotes are always returned to the box though, eh (which goes all so well with your room too)!

  8. That's gorgeous!! I love the idea except my box is only 4" x 6" & I don't think remotes will fit... :(
